Fraser and his son on their bikes looking out over a field under a blue sky

Fraser's Story

Fraser is a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Forth Valley College and signed up to Take the Right Route back in February. He kindly caught up with us over the phone to tell us about his experience of the challenge and app so far.

I first heard about Take the Right Route in Forth Valley College's weekly staff email and signed up because I walk around town. I'd heard about BetterPoints on the Global Cycling Network website, where there was a video about how participants in a challenge in Bologna could earn points by cycling and then spend them on beer!
I was in the habit of cycling to work quite regularly but fell out of it because of a change in job role. I'm trying to rebuild that habit and my objective is to cycle to work regularly in the new academic year. I can ride at least one way and get the train if I need to.
I want to get back into the habit because I'm keen to get fit and save money on petrol - and enjoy the treats I can earn like cake and coffee! I like to ride along the canal with my son and I'd like to do a little more mountain biking as there are some excellent trails nearby. I'll be spending my points on a Costa card so we can go for a coffee on our next ride.
